Eat Like a Local – Salt Lake City

delicious, dishes, focus

When it came to food and nightlife in Salt Lake City we didn’t have really high of expectations. But come to find out we were pleasantly surprised that there is a pretty bustling food scene there. We could have eaten out every night and still not tried it all. Below are some of our favorite finds that would make a perfect go to list if you are visiting for the weekend or a couple days.  Enjoy!

  • Quick Dinner – Roctacos
    • We LOVE tacos and I am pretty sure I ate the best taco I have ever had here. They make specialty and unique tacos and OMG, they are delish. We ordered a variety of them since there are so many but I think the BANH MIJO was my favorite.

*Note – they don’t serve alcohol here so don’t go expecting a beer with your tacos but who cares. Get a Topo Chico.

  • Breakfast / Brunch – Sweet Lake Biscuits and Limeade
    • This is a super popular brunch spot and well worth the wait. Ryan ordered a dish with their biscuits and I had the ST. FRANCIS which is an open faced sandwich with arugula. It was amazing and on the lighter side; since it was so hot I couldn’t bring myself to order biscuits. Although, I did try a bite of Ryan’s and they were perfect.

*Note – their waitlist is through YELP so you can add your name to the list before even getting there.

  • Quick Breakfast / Bakery – Tulie Bakery
    • I mean…we had to go there because our pup’s name is Tulee, but their pastries were great!

*Note – If you are getting a breakfast sandwich or one of their toasts, eat it there. We took ours home and it was soggy by the time we got back, still super good but that was disappointing. Eat there.

  • Lunch – Caputo’s Market and Deli and then Sweetaly Gelato
    • This was a classic Italian deli that had fantastic sandwiches. Very European though, so don’t expect an “American Deli” sandwich. We ended up buying some other items there as well like a baguette and some pasta sauce so we could continue the theme at home. Once you’re done eating on their patio go across the street and get gelato at Sweetaly Gelato. That corner basically makes you feel like you are in Italy, so when in Rome – eat Gelato.

  • Date Night – Takashi Sushi
    • I know what you are thinking, Sushi in SLC? We aren’t even close to the ocean. Trust me, just go there. It is so good and SUPER popular. We had no idea what to expect but had read some really great reviews so we thought we would give it a try. They open for dinner at 5:30 PM for dinner so we got there around 6:15 and the place was packed, on a weekday, so get there early and/or plan on waiting. We had about an hour wait so we went to Whiskey Street (which happened to make our list for HH and drinks) down the street. Again, well worth the wait. Their Sake Sashimi was probably one of the best I have ever had.

We had so many great meals we could write for days but I hope this list helps the next time you are in SLC looking to grab a bite to eat! Check out my Utah YELP Collection if you are looking for more recommendations or a quick guide to more food/drink options in SLC and the surrounding area.
